Volvo CEs end-2-end PLM program and experiences from rolling out Windchill
Pelle Bokedal, Vice President of Strategy, Architecture and Systems in Volvo CE Technology, talks about his experiences as executive sponsor for the Volvo CEs end-2-end PLM program and experiences from rolling out Windchill.
In one of the largest IT rollouts in Volvo CEs history, Volvo CE has now nearly completed the journey of replacing legacy PDM systems across the world with Windchill.
It has been a companywide digital transformation that has involved 11 factories, 12 offices, 6 product lines, transfer of 7 Million files in legacy systems, more than 2000 users trained of which more than 500 “heavy” users and the savings are massive.
Furthermore, there are other areas in the program which cover Model-Based Systems Engineering, How to handle ESW through the product lifecycle, How to work with Spare parts information as well as how to leverage on 3D in manufacturing engineering.
The presentation will cover how the approach was changed from traditional requirement based ways of working was changed to a more agile setup. Not only on the operational level but also from a program level perspective.
“We don’t really have a good name for it, but some of us call it Agile program management at the same time as we think that Agile is a buzz-word. It is one thing to talk about Agile but a completely different thing to execute according to it. It is a little bit like trying to explain how to ride a bike. I will do my best to give insights in both good and bad experiences.” says Pelle.
